Composition & material selection

Virgin PTFE

Unfilled PTFE for chemical-contact and electrical-insulation components. Review creep, sustained loading and purity documentation before selecting the grade.

  • PTFE without functional fillers
  • Starting point for insulation and media contact
  • Sustained load and wear remain selection constraints

Choose unfilled material for the reason it matters

Virgin PTFE keeps functional fillers out of the compound. It is a useful starting point when electrical isolation or contact with process media matters more than increasing load capacity.

Unfilled does not mean every supplied form has identical properties. Resin selection and stock manufacturing affect the component, so specify the grade and form alongside the part drawing.

Design around deformation

A compressed washer, seal or spacer can change dimension over time. The supporting surfaces and applied load are part of the selection, especially where a maintained gap or seal contact is critical.

For a sliding component, evaluate wear under the actual load and motion. If wear or deformation limits the design, compare a filled compound rather than relying only on PTFE low-friction behavior.

Grade Selection Questions

Does virgin PTFE automatically mean food-contact certified?

No. Food-contact suitability and documentation relate to the supplied grade and intended use conditions.

Is virgin PTFE always preferable to a filled grade?

It depends on the duty. Unfilled material avoids filler-related changes, while a specified filled grade can address mechanical or sliding requirements.
