Composition & material selection

Filled PTFE

Compare filled PTFE compounds for wear, load, creep and thermal behavior. Select the actual filler system and composition rather than a generic filled grade.

  • Glass, carbon, graphite and bronze families
  • Composition-specific mechanical behavior
  • Filler compatibility included in media selection

Specify the compound, not just the family

Filled PTFE is a group of compounds rather than one interchangeable material. Two parts described as filled can have different deformation, friction and electrical behavior.

Keep the filler identity and the supplier grade designation with the drawing. A mixed filler system needs its own data rather than a blend of values taken from separate materials.

Follow the property trade-offs

A filler selected to improve wear or load response can change other characteristics. Assess media contact, mating-surface wear and electrical duty as part of the same choice.

Use compound data and representative operating conditions when comparing candidates. Test values from different temperatures, loads or sliding arrangements are not direct performance rankings for your assembly.

Specific answers

Grade Selection Questions

Is modified PTFE the same as filled PTFE?

No. Resin modification and the addition of fillers are different ways of changing material behavior. Identify which material system is specified.

Can filler percentage alone identify a replacement?

No. Filler type, resin, processing and additional additives also matter. Match the complete compound designation and relevant data.
