Specify the insulation path

Material choice alone does not define an assembly voltage rating. Wall thickness, air clearance, surface path, contamination and the mounting arrangement all affect insulation performance.

Identify the conductive components and the path that must remain isolated. A cross-section through the assembly is often more useful than a view of the insulator alone.

Keep mechanical retention in the drawing

Insulating parts may also carry a fastener load or locate a conductor. Give the clamping arrangement and contact faces so deformation does not undermine the required separation.

Filled or pigmented grades require their own electrical assessment. A black PTFE component should not be assumed to insulate merely because its base polymer is PTFE.

Ordering Questions

Does every PTFE grade provide the same insulation?

No. Fillers and additives can change electrical behavior. Specify the actual grade and the electrical requirement.

Can I assign a voltage rating from wall thickness alone?

No. The complete geometry and use environment must be evaluated and tested against the applicable requirement.
